Most people have never been told what a salve even is, or why putting a plant on your skin does anything at all. Here’s the honest version, the same science every KBA product is built on.
01 A salve is not a lotion
Lotion is mostly water. It sits on top, soaks in for a second, then evaporates. A salve is oil and beeswax with no water at all, so instead of drying up it stays put and slowly releases the herbs into your skin over time. That’s the whole reason it works where you put it.
02 Your skin is an organ
Your skin isn’t a wrapper holding you together. It’s your largest organ, it’s alive, and it takes things in. When you rub on a salve, the oil sinks into those top layers and carries the plant compounds right into the skin and the tissue just beneath it, exactly where you need them.
03 Why we infuse in oil, not water
A lot of the calming and soothing compounds in herbs are fat-soluble, which means oil pulls them out and water can’t. So every KBA salve starts by steeping the herbs in warm oil for a full day. The gentle heat draws the compounds out, and that infused oil is what carries the actual plant into your skin.
04 Tea, pill, or salve: three different jobs
Same herb, three different things. A tea only gives you the water-soluble parts, fast and gentle from the inside. A pill is the whole ground plant, but it has to break down in your gut first. A salve uses oil to reach the fat-soluble parts and puts them right on the spot that needs it. Which form fits depends on what you’re after.
05 How to actually use a salve
It’s solid in the tin on purpose. Take a small scoop, warm it between your fingers until it melts, then rub it into the spot. The warmth helps it sink in instead of sitting on top, and a little goes a long way. New to a formula or have sensitive skin? Patch-test a small area first.
06 Built around one researched herb
Every product starts with a single herb that has real science behind it, not folklore, then a supporting cast around it. That’s why each salve is honest about what’s inside and why. Curious about the herb behind your match? Every one links to its own page and the research.
